Illowa Council Commissioners’ Strategic Objectives & Goals

 
Objective I: Ensure a complete unit program

Strategies to Achieve the Objective:

  • Be part of unit annual program planning.
  • Monitor advancement & youth recognition.
  • Promote unit & district resource materials.


Specific Goals:

  • Ensure unit annual program planning process is accomplished. [September annually]
  • Review Unit Advancement statistics utilizing the District Advancement Report. [Bi-monthly]
  • District commissioner brings advancement concerns to district committee. [Monthly]
  • Commissioners encourage proper uniforming by setting the example. [Monthly]
  • Hold uniform inspections. [Twice Annually]
  • Encourage all youth have appropriate handbook & Boys’ Life subscription. [Annually]
  • Promote unit & district library of resources. [Annually]
  • Promote utilization of older youth experience. [Monthly]

 

Objective II: Program is delivered by a trained leader.

Strategies to Achieve the Objective:

  • Promote all leader training programs.
  • Ensure continued commissioner training.

Specific Goals:

  • Know your district training dates for all youth & adults leaders in all scouting programs. [Monthly]
  • Emphasize training opportunities. [Monthly]
  • Encourage leaders to participate in district & council activities. [Monthly]
  • Promote Roundtable attendance to all leaders. [Monthly]
  • Commissioners must attend Roundtable. [Monthly]
  • Review adult leader training in conjunction with district training committee. [Monthly]
  • Commissioners attend District Commissioner meetings. [Monthly]
  • Commissioners attend area College of Commissioner Science &/or Commissioner Conference. [Annually]


Objective III: Encourage a Strong Outdoor Program.

Strategies to Achieve the Objective:

  • Promote district, council, area, regional & national outdoor activities
  • Encourage units to be properly trained to participate in outdoor activities.
  • Commissioners to encourage a monthly outdoor activity by each of their units.

Specific Goals:

  • Establish a “drop file” system in all districts. This is a box containing a file for each unit & Commissioner that contains upcoming district & council event information. [January 2011]
  • Know all outdoor activity dates via “drop files.” [Monthly]
  • Encourage each unit to participate in youth leadership training. [Annually]
  • To ensure safety during certain types of activities the BSA requires a leader be present who is trained to conduct that activity. For example: Safety Afloat training is required to go boating. Encourage units to have leaders trained for all opportunities appropriate for their unit type. [Annually]
  • Commissioners are to report on the outdoor activities of their assigned units at District Commissioner meetings. [Monthly]
