WOLF AND BALOO training will help ALL Cub Scout parents and leaders to BE PREPARED for the adventures of camping in the great outdoors with Cubs. This program is specific to meet the needs of introducing young men to the world of overnight camping and fulfills the requirements your Pack needs to conduct these outings. This combined course provides BOTH the basic training as well as the Webelos instruction. When: Friday, April 11 & Saturday, April 12, 2008 Who: Webelos den leaders and ALL adults in the Cub Scout program. Where: Loud Thunder Scout Reservation Cost: $10 -- includes materials and meals: Friday night snack, breakfast & lunch on Saturday. Registration begins 6PM Friday; program starts 6:50PM. Program ends 5PM Saturday. Friday overnight camping & Saturday attendance are required. |

| This great 6th Annual Clinic for Scouts is coming up on Saturday, February 23RD at the Larson Center on the Genesis-Illini Hospital campus, 801 Illini Dr. in Silvis. It will be taught by physicians, nurses and health professionals, beginning at 8:30AM with registration, and lasting through 3:30PM. Remember, the First Aid MB will not be taught at camp, and the Medicine MB is tough because of the amount of interaction with health care professionals….SO take advantage of this great opportunity! |

We have decided to initiate a voluntary recall of the Cub Scout Immediate Recognition Kit, Item 01804, (White plastic emblems that read “Progress Toward Ranks”) as it may contain lead levels in excess of U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission standards in the paint on one component of the kit, the totem badge.

Our Scout Shop has been advised and will handle all customer returns, etc.

| Loud Thunder Fall Training Courses |

The C.O.P.E Unit Team Training Weekend will be held October 12-14 at Camp Loud Thunder. Two groups of no more than eight participants will camp and live the full C.O.P.E Adventure from Friday evening at 7:00 PM through late Sunday afternoon -- an intense experience that will mold your existing leadership group into a real TEAM. Youth participant fee is $20.00, accompanying adult non-participants $5.00. Complete registration (form link) as soon as possible including a current Class 3 or better physical form.

All Webelos (boys entering 4th and 5th grades) are invited to Camp Loud Thunder September 15-16 for an exciting camp experience designed just for Webelos! Scouts will work on Activity Badges, learn about Boy Scouts, and have lots of hands-on FUN!

All Packs should conduct a Round-Up by September 12 (Thursday). See details.
In addition to conducting your Round-Up by September 12, Packs who show a 10% gain in membership by November 1 will receive significant savings on Pinewood Derby cars. Be sure to turn in all your applications and encourage kids to sign up so your Pack can grow and save money! |

| Camp Out with the Swing of the Quad Cities |

The Swing will be hosting its annual Scout Night Campout on Friday, Aug 10. Scouts can watch the Swing play the Dayton Dragons starting at 7:00pm and then campout on the field overnight!
The $10 cost includes: • General Admission ticket to the game • Hot Dog and small soda at the game • Campout ticket to stay the night • Scout Patch to commemorate the day • Breakfast served the next morning
Please park under the bridge! The Farmer's Market will be taking place in the parking lot on the north side of the stadium. Cars left overnight will be ticketed and towed in the morning.

 |
First presented in 1968, the Young American Award is given to students (ages 15-25) who have achieved significant scholarly accomplishments and given exceptional service to the community, state, or country. Nominees may or may not be youth participants in Learning for Life or the Boy Scouts of America.

| 50th JOTA - Jamboree-on-the-Air |
 |
The 2007 Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) will feature a special theme, "50 Hours Around the Globe." In honor of the 50th anniversary of JOTA, Scouts can travel around the globe fore 50 hours, not just 48. The 50th JOTA will run from 10:00pm on October 19 to midnight on October 21, local time.
In the United States, Cub Scout dens and Boy Scout patrols can visit a local amateur's ham shack during JOTA. Scouts and leaders can have a chance to exchange greetings with Scouts from other areas! Some exchanges lead to long-lasting friendships and the exchange of photos, badges, pins, and patches.

| Jamboree-on-the-Internet, or JOTI, is an annual Scouting event sponsored by the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. It will be held the same weekend as Jamboree-on-the-Air on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 0001 local time to 2359 hours on Sunday, October 21, 2007.
In the United States, Cub Scout dens and Boy Scout patrols can meet and, under the supervision of leadership, make many new friends. Special cards and patches are available for participating units. For more information, click here. |

An estimated 13 million people go to bed hungry each night. Scouts in the Illowa Council are encouraged to help alleviate the problem of hunger by participating in a Scouting for Food drive.
If your Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, or Venture Crew conducts a food drive during the 2007 calendar year, you can qualify for special recognition in the Illowa Council Scouting for Food Drive.
Simply complete the official report form and your unit will receive a participation ribbon, GTFA certificate, and each of your Scouts will receive a custom, Illowa Council GTFA wristband.
You can also purchase Good Turn for America patches at the Scout Shop along with the 2007 year rocker. |

The Illowa Council is extremely grateful for the outstanding service these volunteers have provided to local youth. Also recognized at the Council Annual Dinner was Chuck Bruhn, recipient of the Spurgeon Award for outstanding contribution to the Exploring program. The Illowa Council extends is sincerest thanks to all volunteers who continue to dedicate themselves to improving the lives of children in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. |

| 5th Annual First Aid and Medicine Merit Badge Clinic |
 |
| The 5th annual Illowa Council First Aid and Medicine Merit Badge Clinic will be held on Saturday, February 24th, 2007 at Genesis - Illini Hospital (Silvis, Illinois) in the Larson Educational Center (white office building).
There will be an opportunity to see state of the art first aid and resuscitation equipment and learn from EMTs, nurses, and physicians from Genesis. Tours of the hospital departments and demonstrations by doctors are a part of the Medicine Merit Badge curriculum.
The Clinic fee is: $10 per participant OR $5 per participant if received in the Council Office by Feb 12th. The registration form is available here.
