Friends of Scouting

2008 Family Campaign

Friends of Scouting
Achievement Recognition Plan

What is Friends of Scouting?
The “Friends of Scouting” (FOS) campaign is the annual fundraising drive to support Scouting in the Illowa Council. A Friends of Scouting family presentation is an opportunity to educate parents on the resources available to them such as our Service center, Scout shop, Camp Loud Thunder, training courses, etc., and learn how Scouting is funded. Presentations are generally held at highly attended meetings like Blue & Gold banquets and Courts of Honor. These gifts account for 20% of the revenues needed to administer the Scouting program in our 13 county area. It is expected that all Scouting units have a “Friends of Scouting” presentation. Each Scouting family, unit, district, professional Scouter and council board member is asked to do their share by raising funds in our area.

When?
Scouting units are encouraged to have a Friends of Scouting presentation between the months of December-March each year. Units are encouraged to follow-up with all families to extend the opportunity to support our organization.

Continuing recognition:
For donors that contribute at the $160 level (the amount spent each year to provide programs for each of our registered Scouts), or higher, we will recognize them with a special Scouting shoulder patch commemorating one of the 12 points of the Scout Law. In addition, one customized Boy Scout Cooler will be given to each Scout unit at their presentation.

Changes in the “Gold Card” incentive program for 2008

Achievement Levels:
For Scouting units that meet or exceed their achievement level (Gold Card Units), a $10 voucher will be provided for each of their Scouts to attend Boy Scout Summer Camp, Webelos Camp, or the Cub Family Camp at Loud Thunder in 2008. Achievement levels are based on historic results, average contributions in the district and family participation.

Example:
  • Cub Pack #1 qualifies for the new recognition program.
  • 12 of their 36 Scouts attend Webelos Camp…they will receive $120 in vouchers.
  • 18 of their Scouts attend the Family Camp on July 12-13th; they get $180 in vouchers.

  • Total: Cub Pack #1 sent 30 Scouts to Camp Loud Thunder summer programs & saved $300.00.

For Scouting Units that were “Gold Card” recipients in 2007, the previous incentive will be honored through May 31, 2008. This new incentive will be replacing the “Free Rank Advancement” program.
