Shooting Experience – 4/20

WHEN: Saturday, April 20, 2024

WHO: Scouts BSA and Venturers, 48  participants per AM and/or PM Session

WHERE: Loud Thunder Scout Reservation, 9906 175th St W, Illinois City, IL.

  • Campsites are available but must be reserved in advance. This can be done through Illowa Council’s Facilities Rental Platform in Tentaroo.There is NO FEE for campsite rentals.

AM Session:

  • Check-In begins at 7:30am in the Dining Hall.
  • This session begins at 8:00am SHARP with a MANDATORY safety briefing.
  • AM Session concludes at 12:00pm.
  • Choose 3 of the 4 action areas: Benchrest Rifle, Shotgun, Pellet Rifle, and Tomahawks.

PM Session:

  • Check-In begins at 12:00pm in the Dining Hall
  • This session begins at 12:30pm SHARP with a MANDATORY safety briefing.
  • PM Session concludes at 4:30pm.
  • Choose 3 of the 4 action areas: Archery, Cowboy Action, Prone Rifle, and Muzzleloading Rifles.

PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND THE SAFETY BRIEFING TO PARTICIPATE.

IF YOU ATTEND THE AM SAFETY BRIEFING, YOU DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND THE PM SAFETY BRIEFING.

COST:

  • $15 per participant for AM or PM session (includes one session, one set of eye & ear protection, one lunch, & one patch).
  • $25 per participant for BOTH AM and PM sessions (includes both sessions, one set of eye & ear protection, one lunch, & one patch).

Participants must pre-register online. No walk-ins are permitted for this event.

Registration closes Tuesday April 15th, 2024, at 5:00pm.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

  • Participants should have a working knowledge of shooting sports as the day’s schedule will not allow time for individual instruction.
  • NO PERSONAL FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, BOWS, or TOMAHAWKS.
  • Bring a completed COPY of your health form (parts A & B). We will shred all health forms at the end of the event.
  • Any of our Range Safety Officers or NRA Instructors reserve the right to immediately remove a participant from a Range if their behavior is deemed unacceptable. The parent will be contacted immediately to pick up the Scout and no refunds will be issued. Safety is our #1 priority.
  • COWBOY ACTION – Participants must be at least 14 years of age with a completed Cowboy Action Hold Harmless Agreement to shoot using 22 Cal. Rifle, 22 Cal. Revolver, and 20 ga. Coach gun. Participants under 14 will shoot Cowboy Action style targets using paintball markers.
  • Lunch will be provided. Please provide your own food if you have special dietary needs.
  • Each action area will have specific instructions for that area.
  • Spectators may pre-order a brown bag lunch for $5 each. These lunches must be pre-ordered online when registering participants.
