Sha-Bo-Na District Dinner - You are cordially invited to attend the Sha-Bo-Na District Recognition Dinner, When Tradition Meets The Future This years dinner will honor Sha-Bo-Na District volunteers. All Scouters and spouses or guests are encouraged to attend. The program will include the presentation of training awards, Quality Unit Awards, Summertime Pack Awards, recognition of the 2007 class of Eagle Scouts, the District Award of Merit, and the Butch Parton Scouting Award of Excellence. If you wish to nominate someone for one of the latter two awards, contact Charlie Tanner for a nomination form. The cost will be $5.00 if reservations are made by April 4, 2008, or $10.00 for walk-ins who have not made a reservation. Payment will be accepted at the door at the reduced price if reservations have been made. |

Gilson Fire - The Jason Mayhew family of Gilson was burned out of their home on January 2, 2008. Mr. and Mrs. Mayhew and their four children escaped with their lives, but, needless to say, they now need everything. Scouts who wish to demonstrate their citizenship and community spirit might wish to conduct clothing or toy drives to come to the aid of this family.

| MUSH, YOU HUSKIES... The Sha-Bo-Na District will hold its annual Klondike Derby from January 18-20, 2008, at Blackthorn Hill Youth Camp. All Boy Scouts and Webelos Scouts are invited to attend. Camping is not mandatory, but is available for those die-hard Scouts. Webelos Dens are welcome, but must have a host troop if they are camping. |

Sha-Bo-Na District Annual Meeting and Election - The annual meeting and election of district committee members for the Sha-Bo-Na District will be held at the Knoxville Presbyterian Church at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11. All council executive board members residing in the district as well as the chartered organization representatives for each unit in the district and all current members of the district committee are eligible to vote. The vote will be for or against the entire proposed slate as a package, and will be determined by a simple majority of those present who are eligible to vote. No nominations will be accepted from the floor. To suggest someone for the district committee, mail the information not later than December 4 to Dave Rice at

Once again, the Sha-Bo-Na District will host a fishing derby for all Cub Scouts in the district. It will be held at Little John Conservation Club at Victoria, Il on September 22. Those who are new to Scouting this year may fish for free upon presentation of the voucher they received when they registered. Other Cub Scouts may fish for $2.00. Each Scout must be accompanied by an adult.

| Illowa Council Scouting for Food |

An estimated 13 million people go to bed hungry each night. Scouts in the Illowa Council are encouraged to help alleviate the problem of hunger by participating in a Scouting for Food drive.
If your Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, or Venture Crew conducts a food drive during the 2007 calendar year, you can qualify for special recognition in the Illowa Council Scouting for Food Drive.
Simply complete the official report form and your unit will receive a participation ribbon, GTFA certificate, and each of your Scouts will receive a custom, Illowa Council GTFA wristband.
You can also purchase Good Turn for America patches at the Scout Shop along with the 2007 year rocker.

On March 3, the Packs, Troops, and Crews of Sha-Bo-Na will help to raise food for the Knox County Food Bank (FISH). Once again, the Cubs and Scouts of the Sha-Bo-Na District will be sharing in a good turn to benefit our community.
Between February 23 and February 26, we will pass out bags and fliers in our neighborhood asking people to contribute food for the Knox County Food Bank (FISH). We will collect those bags on Saturday, March 3 from 9:00am-12:00pm, then take them to the food bank to be weighed in. |

| Fall Fishing Derby for Cub Scouts! |

All Cub Scouts are invited to attend the Fall Fishing Derby being held on September 23 at Lake Storey on the north edge of Galesburg at 9:00am.

| You may pick up your unit's popcorn order on Saturday, November 18, from 8:00-11:00am at the Olson Packaging Warehouse #2 at 519 McClure St. in Galesburg.
McClure is the street adjacent to Steele School on West Main St. The warehouse is just south of the viaduct on the east side of the street.
Please be on time as all popcorn must be out of the warehouse by 11:00am. |
